The New York Times - Azuero Panama Conservation
Panama's southern Azuero Peninsula has seen massive amounts of deforestation in the past thirty years. The loss of primary habitat has severely impacted local animal species, most notably the critically endangered Azuero Spider Monkey of which only 100 remain. Local grassroots conservation groups including Pro Eco Azuero and Refugio Pedasi are working alongside village communities to protect the Azuero and instil a culture of conservation. Photographed and written for The New York Times.
