BBC - The Site Revealing the Sahara's Verdant Past
The archaeological site of Sabu-Jaddi rests near the Nile River in northern Sudan. The site, composed of thousands of petroglyphs carved into the desert sandstone depicts scenes of a time when this part of Africa was a vast savannah prior to the development of the great desert. The rock art of Sabu is a diary, chronicling how humans adapted to the changing conditions and transitioned from hunter gathered to pastoralists during the onset of the Neolithic. This story was photographed and written for BBC World News and published in June 2020.
