Archaeology Magazine - Villages In The Sky
Between 2006 and 2019, researchers in the Wind River Range of Wyoming have discovered over 25 prehistoric villages in the high alpine terrain. Excavations at the villages, in particular at the site High Rise Village, have uncovered tens of thousands of artifacts, soapstone bowls, projectile points, and ultimately, a fascinating narrative about how ancient people lived and thrived in the high mountains. This story was written and photographed for the 2020 May/June issue of Archaeology Magazine.
