Archaeology Magazine - A Nubian Kindgom Rises
Between 2,600 - 1,450 BC, Kerma, located in Sudan, became one of the most influential powers in northeast Africa. After its original discovery in the early 1900's, Kerma was mistaken to be Egyptian colony where in reality, its roots and success lie in African origins. For the past fifty years, Swiss archaeologist Charles Bonnet has worked to uncover the story of Kerma and share with the world how an African kingdom came to rival Egypt. This project was photographed and written as a cover story for the September 2020 issue of Archaeology Magazine.
