3. A fragment of a soapstone bowl that was discovered at 11,000 feet. Bowls such as this one were used by the Mountain Shoshone to cook a variety of fish and game stews. Soapstone in northwestern Wyoming can only be found above 10,000 feet so native people often made the bowls in the mountains and carried the 50+ pound products into the surrounding valleys for winter.
